Why is Curb Appeal So Important?

Spring will be here before you know it and if you’re planning to list your home at the Lake of the Ozarks this spring, now is the time to start thinking about getting your home ready to list. You’ve probably been focusing heavily on making sure the inside of your home is in tip-top shape, but as soon as it warms up it’s important that you head outside and spend some time on the exterior of your home too! Spring curb appeal is extremely important because it’s the potential buyers' first impression of your home. Read on to find out why Spring Curb appeal is so important.

Why Is Curb Appeal So Important?
First impressions matter, big time! Think about it, if you have a job interview you probably spent extra time getting ready, possibly rehearsed a good handshake, or reviewed some interview questions they might ask you. Why did you do that? The answer is you wanted to leave a good first impression. First impressions often make or break on whether or not you land the job you applied for. Selling your house is the same way. If potential buyers drive by your house with a for sale sign in the yard and they are displeased with the appearance of the outside, often they will not take the time to set up a showing to view the inside. You have already lost the sale and the buyers didn't even look on the inside of your home.

This is a common problem when people try to sell their home. While the inside of your house is very important when you try to sell your house at the Lake of the Ozarks, you should not neglect the outside. The gorgeous kitchen remodel you did is an excellent selling point, but if you neglect the outside of your home you run the risk of your potential buyers not even making it inside to see all the work you did.
Tips for Increasing Curb Appeal

Mow your Lawn
This is an easy fix to increase your curb appeal. Having a well-manicured yard makes a huge difference. A well-manicured yard demonstrates to the buyers that you have taken the time to keep up and maintain your home while you lived there. If your yard is in poor shape, the buyers may think you haven't taken the time to do the necessary upkeep a house requires. Take time to do the necessary yard work before you list the property but also while the home is still on the market. Keep the lawn mowed, rake up any leaves, and pick up any branches laying around. Unfortunately, if your house doesn't sell quickly, this is not a one-time fix. You need to make sure your yard is kept up throughout the entire it is on the market.
Paint your Door
Painting your front door goes back to first impressions. If your front door is old or in bad shape, it can make your house look cheap or unkempt. Giving your front door a fresh coat of paint can make a dramatic difference to your curb and it is an easy an inexpensive thing to fix.

Update your Landscaping
You should never underestimate the difference nice landscaping can make when it comes to curb appeal. When we say nice landscaping, we don't mean you need to spend a bunch of money to hire a landscaping company. If your budget allows, a landscaping company would be great, but there are plenty of DIY things you can do to improve your landscaping. For example:
  • Trim the shrubs be careful not to leave any bald spots
  • Weed your flower bed in the front of the house and plant seasonal blooming flowers
  • Mulching your flower beds is an easy and inexpensive way to update your flower garden
  • If you have any bald spots, lay down a few pieces of sod to cover it up
