Moving Day Tips to Make the Move Go Smoothly

Moving day! After months (and maybe even years) of planning, strategizing, house-hunting, and packing, the big day is finally here: it's time to move into your new house at the Lake of the Ozarks. We understand that moving can be a bit of a hassle, no matter how excited you might be to get into your new home. What are some tips and tricks of the trade to make the big day go a little more smoothly? Fran Campbell Team is here to help you out!

Charge Your Cell Phone
Most people spend way more time on their cell phones than they realize on moving days. While this is certainly not a day to waste time playing Angry Birds, many people end up spending a lot of time on their cells coordinating with movers, family members, and friends. The last thing you want is for your phone battery to die at a crucial moment! Make sure your phone is fully charged the night before and bring a charger with you in case you need it.

Get Up Early On Moving Day
Even if you're not a morning person, it's essential that you wake up early on moving day. Moving is a lot of work, and it's easy to let the process overwhelm you. By waking up early, you will have plenty of time in the morning to take care of any last-minute tasks - and maybe even treat yourself to a nice, healthy breakfast. Having extra time in the morning will help you keep your stress levels in check.

Arrange for Childcare
Older kids can be a big help on moving day, but little kids have a tendency to get underfoot and can make the moving process much more difficult. It's hard to focus on moving when you have to constantly be watching to see where the little ones went and what they might be getting into! Having someone else watch your kids - and your pets - on moving day will make the whole process much easier.

Wear Comfortable Clothes
Moving is a big job that can exhaust even the most energetic individuals. Your focus should be solely on getting everything packed up and making sure everything is where it needs to be - your clothing should be the least of your concern. In order to prevent yourself from having to worry about your attire getting in the way, we recommend wearing comfortable, form-fitting clothes. (Loose clothing may get caught on boxes and cause more trouble than they're worth.)

Put Boxes in the Room Where their Contents Will Go
If you've packed strategically, you should have a pretty good idea of what each box contains. Use this knowledge to place each box appropriately in your new home - for example, put the box with kitchen supplies in the kitchen. If you have hired professional movers, you should have the boxes labeled according to their contents and put sticky notes on the doors in the new house so the movers can know what goes where. By placing your moving boxes in accordance with their contents, you'll be able to save a lot of extra hauling after move-in day.

Double-Check the Parking Availability
It doesn't matter if you and your friends are using your own cars to move all your things or if you have hired professional movers; either way, you'll need to be sure that there is plenty of space of all the vehicles to park! Do yourself a favor and scope out the parking situation before moving day so you can have time to develop a strategy (if need be).

Do a Final Walk-Through
This is a different final walk-through than the one you did in your new Lake of the Ozarks home to make sure everything was in the condition you and the sellers had agreed upon. This final walk-through is the last pass you take through your old home after everything has been packed so you can make sure that you did not forget anything. Open everything - all the drawers, cabinets, and closets - to make sure nothing gets left behind. Don't forget to check the attic and the crawl space, too!
