Fun Things To Do With Your Family This Thankgiving

Thanksgiving holiday is a time to spend with those you care about the most. It's a chance to reflect on all of the things in your life you are grateful for - a chance to reconnect with friends and family after another busy year. The feast is the center point of most Thanksgiving celebrations, but what else can you do to keep everyone occupied this holiday weekend? Fran Campbell Team is here to offer a few suggestions.

Fun Things To Do With Your Family This Thanksgiving

Go For A Hike

The Lake of the Ozarks is home to some truly incredibly hiking trails. If you're looking for a way to spend some quality time with your family this weekend (or work off that last slice of pie), bundle up and go exploring at Ha Ha Tonka State Park (ranked the fourth best state park in the country!) or Lake of the Ozarks State Park. In addition to offering a much-needed breath of fresh air, this group hike will allow for special family bonding time.

Play Games

There's nothing quite like the joy making memories with your family around the game table. Choose your family's favorite board games like Clue, Risk, and Monopoly (or card games such as Hearts, Spades, and Rummy) and let the games begin! If you you're in the mood for a little healthy competition, add some extra incentive by let the winner be excused from having to help with the dinner dishes or get first dibs on the dessert.

Get Crafty

Almost everyone loves the chance to let their inner artist shine every once in a while! Break out the pens, pencils, markers, scissors, construction paper, and glue sticks and let your imaginations run wild. If you have young children, encourage them try some Thanksgiving favorites such as handprint turkeys or construction paper chains. Your creations will make for beautiful displays the rest of the weekend!

Cook Dinner

The actual Thanksgiving meal doesn't have to be the only Thanksgiving activity centered around food. Why not get everyone involved in the preparations as well? Give everyone a specific task, such as peeling the potatoes, dressing the turkey, and/or making the green bean casserole. In addition to letting everyone feel included, dividing up the responsibilities in this way will also make the job easier for everyone.

Watch The Thanksgiving Day Parade

The Lake of the Ozarks does not host a local parade on Thanksgiving, but many of the big cities do. New York celebrates every Thanksgiving with the biggest Thanksgiving Day parades in the nation. In fact, it's so big that you can watch it live on TV from anywhere else in the nation! Gather your family around the TV and watch the biggest parade you've ever seen take place right before your eyes.

Give Thanks

Thanksgiving is a day dedicated for giving thanks for the things in your life you are most grateful for. Why not incorporate this tradition into your family's activities for the day? Set out a large piece of poster board and encourage your family to write all the things they are grateful for on the board. Once you're finished, set the board up on display - you may enjoy looking at it for months to come!
