1. Increase your curb appeal. Potential buyers will often drive by your house and decide whether it's worth their time to look inside. Entice buyers in by planting fresh flowers on the front step, mowing the lawn, and maybe even repainting/staining the porch if needed. These actions may seem obvious, but their importance cannot be underestimated!
2. Clean your house, then clean it again. This is arguably the most important step you can take in preparing your home for the market. From floors to windows, countertops to grout, every inch needs to shine. This is also a great opportunity to clear out any clutter that may have accumulated in your home. Reducing the amount of things in the closet will make your storage space seem bigger - a top priority for most buyers.
3. Repurpose your spare rooms. If you've been using the extra room for storage, take the time to set it up as a spare bedroom, an office, or a reading nook. Varying the types of rooms in your home will fill your buyers' minds with possibilities for your home. Keep in mind that you personally might not have a need for an office, it's quite possible that your potential buyer would!
4. Make your rooms as neutral as possible. Chances are you'll have several different types of people visiting your home. Men, women, married couples, and families can all be potential buyers, so it's important to make sure all of your rooms can appeal to people from all backgrounds. Steer towards grays, beiges, tans, or subtle blues and greens.
As you're sprucing up your home, remember to have fun with it! Your end goal is to make your home as visually appealing as possible to as many people as you can.
